The custom deck built at Cinnamon Bay Estates and ProBuilt's ad in Chesapeake Home & Living |
In the spring of 1997, ProBuilt Construction was hired to construct a 3 level, 2,000+ square foot pressure treated wood deck for a customer in Gaithersburg, MD. The client was so happy with not only the results, but with the experience he had with ProBuilt, that he asked if we would be interested in flying down to St John, USVI, to build a custom deck around his newly constructed pool for his vacation home. Of course, we jumped at the opportunity to work in such a beautiful setting. In 2000, we did just that, and we were able to use the very first series of Trex® decking created, “Origins” in Winchester Grey.
10 years later, after weathering hurricanes, extreme humidity, and intense heat, the main deck off the house and the two balcony decks and rails off the bedrooms constructed of wood were in bad shape. So, the owner contacted us once more to not only resurface all the wood surfaces, but also to resurface the pool deck so that all the exterior surfaces and rails matched. Fortunately, we were able to use the new Trex Transcend® line that offers a 25 year fade, stain, scratch, and mold resistant warranty, which is the ideal material for the Caribbean weather conditions.
In September of 2010, the 2,500+ square foot project began. The materials used were:
Trex Transcend® Gravel Path grooved decking
Trex® Hideaway fasteners
Vintage Lantern accent decking around the border and the pool
Trex Transcend® Gravel Path railing with Trex black architectural balusters
Vintage Lantern fascia trim around the frame of the deck
Accent lighting on the rail posts
It took approximately 5 weeks from start to finish and a lot of that had to do with working around Hurricane Earl and the rainy season for the US Virgin Islands. The final result was picture perfect! The homeowner was happy again with the final results of the project and is sharing the home with others.
